Back Surgery
It has been nine days since my back surgery. So far, it seems to have been successful.. At least that's what Elaine tells me. I have a six inch incision in my lower back that felt like my skin was burning. That sensation has switched to itching, so I guess that's good, right?
Oh yeah, I forgot. I can walk without pain in my legs. Standing up (or sitting down) is what is difficult for me. When I get to my feet I can really go, that is until the puppies they and I do not share the same idea of really going. If you see a couple of puppies dragging an old guy down the dirt driveway, I could use some help.
I don't remember much about the surgery. I was instructed to arrive two hours prior to surgery for prep. The prep nurse started an IV and introduced my to my soon to be anesthesiologist.
The anesthesiologist was young, female, and wearing big earrings. I don't know why I noticed and remembered that but I do. She informed me she was go to insert a catheter into an artery on my right wrist. By now I was getting loopy and didn't really care what she was doing. I did realize that I was getting another IV type thing but this one hurt. As I got more relaxed I could feel she was getting agitated. She decided to switch to my left arm. Whatever she was doing this time was successful. It must have taken to long because she aske the prep nurse to get Elaine (and Boy Twin) and bring them in the room. We were now behind schedule. I overheard the prep nurse ask another nurse to bring my family into to room while she cleaned up the "murder scene". Her words. That's the last thing I remember.
I spent two nights in the hospital, surround by people with knee and hip replacements, I was jealous at how fast they recovered. The morning I was released from the hospital, Elaine called to tell me that she could not steer her car. As luck would have it rodents had chewed the wiring associated with the power steering for the third time. Yep three times. Someone said Honda makes their wire coverings from soy. Personally I would prefer chocolate, but that would cause the rodents to get fat.
I'm on the mend. They predict 3 months before back to "normal".
Thanks for your prayers, if you did. If you didn't, you should have.
